Do you Notice Smoke Damage After a Fire in Everett?
Call our experts after you experience a fire disaster, we have training in fire & smoke restoration, odor control, upholstery & fabric cleaning.
SERVPRO Can Help You With All Types of Fire Restoration Services in Everett
Even if you suffer from a small fire, smoke can cause damage in areas of your structure far away from the source. Once partially combusted particles get released from the fire and into the atmosphere, they can affect several of your contents and building materials.
During fire damage restoration in Everett, our SERVPRO technicians first remove all burnt debris and clean soot residues from surfaces. If rooms in your house still smell burnt after the waste and residues get removed, then we have other steps we can take to deodorize your dwelling. Thermal fogging is one of these methods, and it has the following benefits:
- The Chemicals Used Can Permeate Most Materials- The fogging machine works by breaking down chemicals into microscopic particles that behave the same way the smoke did.
- The Fog Can Reach Difficult Areas to Access- Since the deodorant particles released are so small, they can contact areas that other methods cannot.
- The Deodorants Absorb Smoke Particles- The microscopic deodorant particles can absorb and chemically neutralize malodor particles.
If your house ever smells burnt after a fire ignites, call SERVPRO of South Everett at (425) 367-4484.
Which Steps Are Crucial During Mold Remediation In Everett Properties?
SERVPRO technicians are IICRC certified for all kinds of restoration services. Mold remediation should be handled by the professionals.
SERVPRO Helps Halt the Spread of Mold in the Affected Everett Residences
Mold readily develops in warm, moist environments with a sufficient supply of food. House materials such as drywall, insulation, wood, paper, and even indoor dirt provide sufficient food supply for mold. If there is a water spill or other unresolved moisture issues, mold readily develops in any property section. Removing moisture sources and cleaning up mold residues are two crucial aspects of remediation.
Since the infestation can affect visible surfaces or concealed areas, mold remediation exercises in Everett residences differ. SERVPRO has IICRC certified Applied Microbial Remediation Technicians who inspect your property to determine the appropriate remediation approach. In case of a significant moisture problem such as pools of water or a leaking pipe, we prioritize extraction or repair to guarantee the effectiveness of the other removal steps. Some of the steps our SERVPRO technicians take include:
- Creating containment barriers using plastic sheets and negative air pressure machines
- Establishing "clean rooms" and decontamination areas for people and equipment
- Removing heavily infested porous materials
- Cleaning affected areas through damp-wiping, wire brushing, or HEPA vacuuming
SERVPRO of South Everett can help with mold remediation on your property. Call us at (425) 367-4484 at any time.

SERVPRO of South Everett is a Phone Call Away from Preserving Homeowners’ Belongings 24/7
Everett, Washington is a thriving community north of Seattle and one of the largest in both Puget Sound and the state as a whole. According to 2018 data, the estimated population of Everett is over 111,000. Everett’s humble beginnings were as a logging settlement near the Snohomish village of Hibulb. In the late nineteenth century, plans emerged to turn the area into a major hub of commerce, infrastructure, and industry.
These plans were able to come to fruition in the 1890s when investors from the East Coast pooled resources to purchase the land necessary for this urban development project. The namesake of Everett is investor Charles Colby’s son. Everett was incorporated a few short years after the railroad was constructed. What was once a modest logging settlement for Western pioneers living among the Snohomish turned into a lumber industry giant.
Industry in Everett expanded rapidly during the first half of the 1900s, including implementing new railways, highways, and an airport. After the Second World War, production shifted from lumber processing and fishing to aerospace development and manufacturing due to Boeing, which is the largest employer in the city to this day, followed by the United States Navy, due to the presence of Naval Station Everett.
Other major employers in the city include:
- Amazon, Inc.
- FedEx Corporation
- Funko, Inc.
- Fluke Corporation
While Everett has boomed, nearby Seattle has exploded in size. The resulting growth has turned the surrounding cities in King and Snohomish counties into commuter towns for citizens who work in the Seattle metropolitan area.
The Snohomish Peoples of Everett
The indigenous Snohomish people are a Lushootseed tribe that still resides in the Puget Sound region in northern Washington. Lushootseed is a unique language due to its lack of nasal consonants. With this in mind, the anglicized tribal spelling of Snohomish is Sdoh-doh-hohbsh, which is Lushootseed for “lowland people” according to the last hereditary Snohomish Chief, William Shelton. Other meanings have been debated by historians, including:
- “Many people”
- “Warrior tribe”
- “Sleeping waters”
- “A type of union among the brave”
The Snohomish peoples originally lived at the Snohomish River’s mouth and on multiple islands not far from Mukilteo. The population stretched along the river to modern-day Monroe. Several subdivisions existed between the tribespeople based on where they lived. The Snohomish on the lower river and Whidbey Island were Sdohobcs, while the peoples found between Monroe and Snohomish were called Sdocohobcs. The N’Quentlamamishes, meanwhile, resided by the Pilchuck River.
The Snohomish population has increased over almost 180 years. In the mid-1840s, the Snohomish population was as small as 322 but has swelled to over 1,200 since the late 2000s. Today, many Snohomish tribespeople are affiliated with the Tulalip Tribes and Reservation located west of Marysville.
A History of Boeing in Everett
While Boeing got its start in Seattle and Renton in the 1910s, the aerospace giant is mainly active at Paine Field in Everett, which has a plant located just north of the airport. Today, all of the widebody jets that Boeing produces are assembled at that plant, from the 747 to the 787. Boeing employed over 100,000 workers at its peak but had to cut down to 30,000 after a massive downturn in the overall aerospace industry in the 1970s.
Boeing products previously assembled in Everett include:
- Bulkheads and B-17 parts manufactured at what was once a garage on Pacific Avenue during World War II
- In the mid-1950s, employees at the Everett-Pacific Shipyard built fixtures and jigs for KC-135 tankers and B-52 bombers
- The first jumbo jet produced by Boeing, the 747, was approved for construction in 1966. Mere months later, the land for the factory at Paine Field was purchased. The plant opened in 1967, and the first 747 was completed just over a year later in the fall of 1968.
The first Boeing 746, named “The City of Everett,” is on display today at the Museum of Flight in Seattle. Boeing remains Everett’s largest employer, accounting for over 30,000 jobs. Facilities at the Boeing complex include a fire department, daycare, fitness center, and security team.
What Procedures are Crucial for SERVPRO’s Mold Remediation Process in Everett?
Mold remediation necessitates a wealth of both sophisticated tools and tried-and-true techniques that require extensive training and education to master. SERVPRO ensures that technicians undergo proper training and licensure for residential mold remediation. The repertoire of tools needed for mold removal in Everett includes:
- Establishing containment areas so mold spores cannot travel through vents, doorways, and other openings. Technicians wear proper personal protection equipment (PPE) and designate clean rooms for thorough disinfection
- HEPA filter air scrubbers and vacuums are crucial to removing mold spores and debris from surfaces and the air efficiently and safely. HEPA filters are certified to catch 99.97% of particles with a minimum size of 0.3 microns, a mere fraction of the size of a 70-micron human hair
- EPA-registered biocides, including dozens of SERVPRO’s proprietary solutions, are essential to removing mold spores and odors and creating an environment that is not conducive for them to spread
- Odor control techniques applied by certified SERVPRO Odor Control Technicians (OCTs) ensure that residual odors from moisture and microbes is eliminated at the source to return a mold-damaged home to a preloss condition
While mold lives to some degree in every building, remediation significantly reduces the presence of mold and curbs conditions that allow for its growth. This process improves indoor air quality for home occupants while ensuring that spaces are sanitized and free of odors.
SERVPRO of South Everett is proud to make disaster-affected properties look and feel, “Like it never even happened.” Homeowners in need can call (425) 367-4484 at any time of the day or night for emergency-response service.
Where Can Residents Go to Remove Mold From Their Homes?
Mold can grow quickly. Contact SERVPRO of South Everett at the first sign of mold damage.
Everett Homeowners Should Call SERVPRO to Reduce the Threat of Mold.
What Does Mold Do to Area Homes?
Mold is in every Everett home. SERVPRO restoration technicians know that the spores are usually inert and as harmless as ordinary dirt. They only become an active threat after absorbing enough water to expand and start growing across surfaces. The growth can stain property, dig into surfaces, and exude odors.
Why is SERVPRO Necessary to Restore a Home?
Professional mold remediation requires training far beyond spraying bleach on mold growth and painting over it. SERVPRO technicians have an extensive chemical inventory to clean surfaces. They also have a wide variety of equipment to repair and restore everything from floor trim to support structures when the mold penetrates surfaces.
- Sanders and Scrapers – These tools enable us to remove a top layer of wood and other surfaces to pull out the trapped mold as well.
- Dry Ice Blasting -- The generated air pressure can force the pellets as deeply as the mold hyphae to force it out of the wood. This also does not increase the moisture levels due to the sublimation. Technicians then use a vacuum with a HEPA filter to remove the mix of powder and mold particles.
- Soda-blasting devices – If the mold growth is on the surface of drywall or other such surfaces, remediation technicians have access to a soda-blaster to gently remove the colonies without disturbing the substrate. Technicians then use a vacuum with a HEPA filter to remove the mix of powder and mold particles.
- Foggers – Technicians generate a cloud of cleaning particles that can match with the odor-causing spores that penetrated deeply into a surface. These devices are especially useful in tight areas otherwise unreachable.
What Other Threats Do Mold Spores Present in Area Homes?
Mold can cause health effects in some people. These occurrences are rare, however. That is why SERVPRO concentrates its efforts on the physical damage active mold growth can have on the structure in each home and its contents.
To stop the threat of mold growth in your home here, Mukilteo, and other communities, call SERVPRO of South Everett at (425) 367-4484 today. We are here to return your home to a safe condition, ready for your family once again.

What Do Insurance Companies Prefer After a Loss?
It is customary to contact your insurance provider after a disaster, especially one as widespread and destructive as flooding can be. When you have coverage to handle these natural disasters, your insurance company often encourages professional assistance in the restoration and recovery of your home. Because there are so many stages of repair, cleaning, and restoration, it is unlikely that homeowners meet the necessary credentials providers are looking for after these disasters. Our SERVPRO professionals can provide:
• Commercial-Grade Equipment
• Fast Response
• Safe Practices
• Detailed Reports
Should Several Water Removal Tactics Get Used?
Extraction is a fundamental element to water restoration and flood recovery, and often includes several tools working towards the same goal. Higher volumes of standing water can hide threats and hazards such as contaminants, debris, wildlife, and other concerns. The choice in what extractors ultimately get used to resolve pooling water in damaged areas of your home or business comes down to several factors, including:
• Solids – Debris and solids are often a common threat in standing water after natural flooding, particularly when creeks and streams near homes overflow. Wet vacuums can remove most of this muck, but extraction requires individual tools that are powerful enough to relocate water with debris present.
• Contaminants – You cannot account for what substances and hazardous materials moving water encounter on a path to your house. Understanding the likelihood of these threats ensures that the appropriate measures get taken to clean surfaces and protect the house's occupants.
• Location of Damage – How accessible flood damage is also plays a role in the individual tools used to remove surface water. Attic flooding after severe weather events like heavy snowfall, ice damming, and torrential rainfall can require special devices like high-pressure pumps.
• Depth and Volume – The severity of the situation is often most directly correlated to standing water depth and how widespread these concerns have become. The present floodwater volume can vary between multiple extraction options like wet vacuums for minor depths and truck-mount removal tools for several feet.
What Technicians Are Necessary for Flood Recovery?
Making the right decisions to protect your home after a flood requires several actions and practices happening simultaneously. Flood mitigation alone has multiple stages ranging from the efficient extraction approaches necessary to address standing water to drying and cleaning strategies. Ultimately, the needed personnel on a job site gets determined with the initial job scoping phase, where assessment and data collection can dictate specific tasks necessary to restore damaged homes. With an increasingly knowledgeable roster of experts and technicians in multiple fields, we can offer several professionals for flood recovery, including:
• WRT – Water Restoration Technicians
• ASD – Applied Structural Drying
• OCT – Odor Control Technician
• CCT – Carpet Cleaning Technician
• AMRT – Applied Microbial Remediation Technician
• Biohazard Recovery
When Is Demolition Needed?
Controlled demolition is a necessary aspect of much of the flooding situations that our SERVPRO professionals address. Especially in conditions where contamination is a concern, we must determine what materials and contents have become exposed to the point of requiring removal and discarding. Direct contamination with blackwater incidents, where substances like sewage, chemicals, and viral pathogens or bacteria impact the construction elements, require our general contractors to remove surface materials to clean underlying framing and supports.
As you can see, there are multiple benefits to selecting professional restoration services after a flood disaster. Loss incidents can compromise homes and businesses in the area, especially in situations like natural flooding. Our SERVPRO of South Everett team can help address concerns as quickly as possible to make it “Like it never even happened.” Give us a call today at (425) 367-4484.

Quick restoration and recovery steps taken in damaged homes can reduce the severity of property losses.
A set timeline exists with the restoration and recovery of water-damaged Everett homes and businesses after a disaster. While our professionals remain prepared at all times to help with these emergencies, the delay often occurs on the homeowner end of the situation. Between a belief that restoration can happen without professional assistance or the red tape insurance companies make policyholders jump through, the timeline can be substantially shortened by the time that SERVPRO gets called to help.
With how much damage could exist before water damage restoration in Everett homes gets started, emergency services become a vital part of our response. Between our experienced Water Restoration Technicians (WRT) and licensed contractors, we can provide a range of immediate services that can work to protect your property from much worse conditions while mitigation and restoration prepare to begin. These may include:
- Controlled Demolition – Water can be destructive to construction materials like drywall, which can collapse after enough weight from oversaturation. Removing these materials can keep technicians and occupants of the house safe.
- Content Relocation – Your personal belongings mean as much as the structure in many cases, making it critical to protect these items by moving them to safe areas.
- Water Extraction – Removing standing water reduces saturation and absorption into sensitive construction materials.
When Do Water Lines Get Repaired After a Disaster?
Substantial losses often result from some breach in the plumbing, often pipe bursts or degradation. Repairing the plumbing is as important to homeowners as the restoration is, and for this reason, restoring water services is often a priority during this emergency services phase as well.
No matter how severe water damages might be in your home, our SERVPRO of South Everett team can help to mitigate losses with emergency services. Give us a call anytime at (425) 367-4484.

Wrap-Around Rebuilding Service Is Why SERVPRO Nails Water Damage Restoration in Everett
We can get your property back to the state it was in before the unfortunate incident.
SERVPRO’s Steps to Restoring Your Water Damage
A water loss event creates stress for Everett residents, but when we recommend controlled demolition techniques to solve water removal and structural drying, you might feel things have gone too far. Trust us to suggest only proven, research-based measures, and to offer continuity of services so that any destruction of building materials to enable water mitigation and remediation is a temporary circumstance, why we offer reconstruction options.
Water Loss Brings Challenges
A significant complication in many water damage events in Everett is when water migrates away from the initial leak or breakdown. The fluid that drips from a cracked pipe or broken pump or hose in an appliance does not remain stagnant. It moves, typically seeking a downward angle, flowing into cracks, crevices, building cavities, and wicking up into porous materials like drywall and insulation. Merely pumping and using extractors cannot reach all spaces where water collects.
Mapping the Migration
The need to trace water pathways is why SERVPRO technicians train in the use of moisture detection tools, using the sensitive instruments to define the perimeters of affected spaces and the moisture content of wet materials. Thermal imaging cameras use temperature variations, evaluated by certified employees, to locate places where caches of water pool.
Accessing the Moisture
Trapped moisture exposes your home to continuing deterioration from the corrosive action of water, why SERVPRO explores controlled demolition options to gain access for extraction and to improve drying efforts. Controlled demolition strategies include:
- Punching weep holes in ceilings and “blistered” paint or wall coverings for water release.
- Removing sections of baseboards or paneling to permit the drilling of holes to release water and allow the application of negative pressure (suction) via hoses or other couplings for extraction. The holes also permit blowing in warm air to expedite drying.
- Making flood cuts several inches above the water line in drywall releases water and opens building cavities to drying equipment.
Repair and Rebuilding
Hiring one contractor licensed and certified to remove water, dry out structural components, and provide reconstruction streamlines restoration. Easing the stress of resolving all aspects of residential water damage is why SERVPRO offers wrap-around services, leveraging our construction division to rehabilitate necessary controlled demolition to make it “Like it never even happened.”
Customer satisfaction from project start to finish is why SERVPRO of South Everett chooses to provide comprehensive rebuilding services. Call us at (425) 367-4484 to explore how we can manage your water damage emergency.

Did Water Damage in Your South Everett Home Leave a Foul Odor?
Water damage leaves foul odors in your home. SERVPRO has the know how to eliminate the odors.
Why SERVPRO Offers Odor Control Measures when Mitigating Water Damage in Your South Everett Residence
After a home or its contents get wet, residents in South Everett begin noticing new odors. These unpleasant smells can come from many sources. Our professional mitigation team can help determine their source and then eliminate their source. These odors can continue to waft through your home, which is why SERVPRO often performs at least one type of odor control method.
Mitigating your home's interior with widespread water damage in South Everett requires equipment that helps us zoom in on the areas where we need to work. Knowing where dry areas exist helps us tailor our efforts to precisely what your house needs. It also helps us locate the sources behind related odors.
While fogging machines work well for fire-related odors, we also need to concentrate on smaller, isolated areas. The carpeting below a window where an air conditioner unit leaked last summer can still emanate odors, even after the floor dries out. Drywall can seem fine on the outside, but the interior might bubble, causing the paper backing to split open. Either of these or several other kinds of water damage can create odors in your house.
With otherwise undamaged carpeting, we can inject deodorizing oils directly into the carpet's pad, which gives off a much more pleasant scent that lasts a long time and poses no risks to young children or pets. The enclosed interiors like the inside of walls or under cabinets, as well as large pieces of furniture, quit giving off malodors when we place a slow-release gel pack inside. Stronger odors in attics or crawlspaces often produce odors from widely spread locations. Using activated charcoal in a safe container can reduce these odors and make other methods more effective.
SERVPRO of South Everett also provides water damage mitigation services in Mukilteo, Paine Field, and Evergreen. Call (425) 367-4484 for comprehensive services that cover everything needed to make it "Like it never even happened."

Cleaning Surfaces After Water Losses in Everett Homes
Many homeowners might fixate on the need for drying and extraction following substantial water losses in Everett homes. Truthfully, as necessary as these elements are to return a property to preloss condition, tasks like cleaning and debris removal are equally vital to the restoration of your house. Our SERVPRO professionals have potent cleaning products available to remove residues and potential contaminants from the home after water losses.
Water cleanup in Everett involves the use of sophisticated tools and techniques. Cleaning up after water loss events focuses on two specific areas: removing residues left on surfaces and reducing the presence of bacteria and microbes. Each of these objectives requires a combination of cleaning agents, equipment, and effective washing techniques.
Removing Residues from Surfaces
Specific cleaning approaches are ideal for breaking up residues and films left on surfaces after water loss incidents occur. Practices such as foam cleaning, wiping, and even abrasive techniques can have a direct effect on the presence of these residues. In addition to agitative and abrasive cleaning approaches, we can also utilize a variety of disinfectant and cleansing products available to our SERVPRO team. Many of these products, such as chlorine-based solutions and phenolics, are multi-faceted, in that they also work to help resolve the second primary focus of water cleanup after a loss incident.
Reducing Bacteria and Microbes
Preventing the growth and spread of bacterial and fungal threats is the priority of any water loss restoration technician. Our team can accomplish this through practical drying efforts, but also the application of antibacterial products, biocides, and sporicides. These agents can inhibit the growth of mold and eliminate bacteria on surfaces, helping to prevent the spread and migration of harmful secondary effects of a water loss incident.
Cleaning up after a water loss incident is a valuable element to the restoration process and one that you can expect our SERVPRO of South Everett team to take great care in accomplishing. No matter how we can help after a disaster, you can give our experienced team a call 24/7 at (425) 367-4484.

How Mold Damage Affects Your Everett home
Call SERVPRO of South Everett at (425) 367-4484 to help. We’re Faster to Any Size Disaster.
SERVPRO Restores the Shine after Mold Damage Affects Your Everett home
Mold infestations are problematic in many ways, but the fact is that the visual appeal, the patches, and stains that appear on surfaces are the main concern for many Everett homeowners. A professional mold remediation team like SERVPRO can help mitigate the loss, restoring all aspects of your property to the preloss state.
Removing the structurally compromised materials
After mold damage affects your Everett property, it is likely to compromise the structural integrity of many building materials and contents. Mold is a fungus, which plays a role in the natural decaying processes. When left to develop unchecked in a property, it leads to physical deterioration that compromises the structural integrity of the affected materials.
Learning that restoring some of the affected materials is impossible can be frustration. However, even safe removal of such materials can pose a significant challenge. Our SERVPRO technicians use their building skills to detach materials such as drywall, mold, and carpets from the building without damaging the surrounding materials. We also use containment and negative air pressure systems to keep mold debris from spreading to other areas of your home.
Mold growing on semi-porous surfaces such as concrete or solid wood leaves distinct patches or stains. Cleaning and refinishing such materials can save them. The first step is scrubbing off all mold debris. Our SERVPRO technicians use techniques such as wire brushing and sanding to dislodge debris. We also damp-wipe surfaces with antimicrobial cleaning agents to stop further mold growth. In some cases, we can apply mold sealants, which are paint-like substances infused with antimicrobial agents. We also restore demolished wall panels and repaint cleaned areas taking care to match the colors of repainted areas to the old ones.
Drying and Deodorizing
High levels of moisture can cause immediate recurrence of the problem. Our SERVPRO technicians use dehumidifiers and other drying equipment to bring down moisture levels if there are wet materials in the house. Deodorization is also essential, whether it is to eliminate the musty smell of mold or odor from finishing products used at the site.
Mold should not downgrade your property. Call SERVPRO of South Everett at (425) 367-4484 to help. We’re Faster to Any Size Disaster.

Why SERVPRO is the Company to Call for Flood Damage Situations in Everett
When your home or area gets flooded, place one call to SERVPRO. We are here 24/7 to respond to your emergency.
Why Everett Residents Rely on SERVPRO for Restoration Services
There are many actions homeowners in Everett regularly take to guard their properties against water damage, fire damage, storm damage, and mold infestations. However, the unexpected still occurs, and pipes break, flash floods, hail, and high winds happen, and fires ignite from a momentarily distracted cook and an overly hot pan.
Water Damage Assistance
When an Everett residence requires water removal, one of the biggest mistakes homeowners make is attempting to handle the problem themselves. Mopping and blotting up water with towels or rags works to remove water from the surface, but water migrates easily within wall cavities, behind baseboards, and under flooring. All of these things cause further damage to the structure in terms of ruined sheetrock, delaminated tiles, and in many cases, mold growth.
Water extraction, of both seen and unseen moisture, is vital to limiting loss in the home. SERVPRO technicians utilize advanced moisture detection equipment to scope properties and determine the pathways of migrated water and where to concentrate water removal efforts.
The technicians bring every piece of equipment they need on their green service vans and unload their portable pumps, extractor heads for a carpet pile of any height and squeegee attachments for tile and hardwood flooring. The technicians do several passes to pick up as much moisture as possible to lessen the time needed for drying — this method of restoration assists in saving both property and contents from secondary-type damages.
Fire Damage Needs Fast Cleanup
Even a small localized fire in an Everett home has the potential to cause more significant fire damage through the spreading of soot through both the HVAC and foot traffic. One of the first actions SERVPRO technicians take when they take on fire loss cleanup in a property is the active containment of the worksite through the use of plastic barriers over doorways or vents or through the setup of negative air chambers.
Technicians perform fire debris removal quickly using shovels and other removal tools to pick up charred, ruined contents. Fire damaged sheetrock and other structural components are cleanly cut away — the removal of these loss items from the property assists in lowering the pungent smoke odors.
Air quality during and after fire damage cleanup is a concern for technicians. They often run air scrubbers and ensure there is adequate ventilation within the contained worksite to continually lower odors. After any needed drying, the certified odor control technicians apply multiple methods to ensure there are no residual odors left behind. Standard actions include the use of devices such as hydroxyl generators that safely use UV rays to neutralize airborne soot particles. Another effective method for absorbent, porous items such as window treatments and upholstered furnishings is thermal fogging where a heated solvent penetrates and eradicates foul smoke odors.
Storm and Flood Damage
Damage to Everett homes from intense storms or flash floods receives treatment in much the same manner as water damage. However, flood damage has the probability of containing toxins, bacteria, and sewage. SERVPRO technicians test the water upon arrival, so they choose the appropriate water treatment method for safety during mitigation.
Technicians work to limit loss to the contents in the property and remove items in an organized pack out to a secure location for cleaning and restoration as needed. The technicians have access to some of the same equipment and methods that the Library of Congress uses to restore and preserve historical documents and books damaged by water.
Controlled demolition techniques perform the dual purpose of removing damaged building materials and allowing maximum airflow for more expedient drying. For example, once groundwater wicks into sheetrock, there is no restoration potential even after complete drying. Cutting it away allows for airflow within wall cavities where otherwise the trapping of moisture could occur.
After drying and disinfection of the property along with any necessary proactive mold preventatives, technicians ready the property for any needed repairs or reconstruction to return it to its pre-flood damage condition.
The occurrence of mold infestations in a home has the potential to happen after fire or water damage. They can also occur whenever there is a constant, elevated humidity level such as poor performance by a bathroom exhaust system not properly porting away damp air from ordinary everyday activities such as showers.
Mold spores exist naturally both inside homes, and out, the airborne spores are inert until they encounter ideal conditions such as high humidity conditions over 50%, excessive moisture and something to consume such as wood beams, sheetrock or paper products like books or stored files in an attic. Once established, the colonies expand quickly, and infestations increase as long as those conditions remain unchanged.
SERVPRO technicians contain the worksite to stop any further spread of mold spores and rapidly lower the humidity levels using their air movers to deliver warm, dry air. Once dry, existing mold colonies undergo careful hand removal, including gentle scraping and the use of hand vacuums to clean up the dried mold. Wood support beams sometimes require more intense efforts to remove the infestations and technicians utilize a removal application known as soda blasting. This method uses bicarbonate soda delivered at a high velocity working as a mild abrasive to remove stuck-on mold without marring surfaces.
After the completion of mold remediation, technicians diagnose the reason for the infestation in the home and suggest the needed repairs to stop the problem from reoccurring in the future.
There are many reasons for Everett residents to choose a professional restoration service when there is a home disaster requiring cleanup. The technicians undergo extensive training in hands-on scenarios, so they learn the best practices for handling water loss, fire damage, smoke residues, and mold remediation before they ever set foot onto a job site. As advances continue in the restoration sciences, technicians continue their education to stay on top of current trends.

Drying Techniques Professionals Use To Address Flood Damage In Your Everett Home
SERVPRO will handle your Everett flood damage, let us show you the way with our technique.
Let us break down our drying techniques for your flooded Everett home.
Dehumidifiers put out hot, dry air, and are used to draw moisture out of saturated materials found in your home. The equipment makes it easy to dry hard-to-reach areas, such as wall cavities, pillars, crawl-spaces, and the attic of your Everett area home. Using a dehumidifier in combination with air movers can direct hot air where needed, making a significant difference in drying time.
Technicians should always consider placement when using air movers and dehumidifiers to address flood damage on your Everett property. Air movers should never blow air directly into the back of a dehumidifier. Instead, we aim dehumidifier exhaust towards air movers to enhance results. Restorers with Institute of Inspection, Cleaning and Restoration Certification understand the proper steps used to reach drying goals quickly.
SERVPRO technicians can place air movers under carpeting to improve drying times. We vent carpeting so that air can escape, applying advanced techniques that are useful for drying both your carpet and the subfloor underneath. Our technicians take precautions to prevent over-flapping that has the potential to lead to delamination or cause damage to surrounding walls.
Your SERVPRO team monitors all drying equipment throughout your flood damage restoration. We document drying conditions, taking readings for relative humidity (RH), temperature, and moisture content, performing regular evaluations until reaching the set drying goal.
If necessary, we move air movers and dehumidifiers in a circular motion to maintain an optimal drying environment. We use a thermo-hygrometers to monitor the exhaust air emitted by each dehumidifier and calculate the grains per pound (GPP) of the dehumidified air.
SERVPRO uses grain depression to determine whether the GPP is enough to reach our drying goal and make adjustments accordingly. When moisture content measurements show that we have reached our drying goal, the building is considered dry. We meet both the structure and content drying goals before removing any equipment from your home.

A Look Back on the Last Five Years
Join us in celebrating 5 years in business with an interview with our owner, Paul Leavens!
SERVPRO of South Everett has been in business now for just over five years! We were able to serve our first customer just five years ago on October 31, 2013. So, to celebrate we are looking back with our owner Paul Leavens and getting his thoughts on why he got started in the restoration business and what we have learned over these last five years.
Why did you decide to get into the Restoration Business?
"There is a side of me that likes helping people. This was an opportunity to combine business and help people at the same time. When individuals are in the situation where they’ve got water damage or fire damage they are in a position where they are having a rotten day and they don’t know what to do. We have the opportunity to come in and have the know-how and the ability to help them recover and get to the point where they are getting back to normal. We basically get to help when they are in a desperate situation. SERVPRO had a system in place nationally that did this well."
What makes us different from other restoration companies?
"We take on the opportunity to help people in all situations. Whether it's a large loss, a commercial loss, residential, we take it all on, to help them. The other thing that I think makes us stand out a bit is we try to do everything needed. We try to take care of them from A to Z with every need that they have. So, any of the services they are in need of in those types of situations we cover. We try to be a one stop shop."
"A big part of that, but not the only part, is the reconstruction business. When individuals have these situations there are some mitigation companies that will mitigate, get them cleaned up or dried up, and then they will have to go find a way to rebuild, they'll have to find the reconstruction. But we take care of the reconstruction as well. So that is something that differentiates us."
"We do the mitigation needed and then put it back together "Like it never even happened.""
Tell us about your team!
"We have a very dedicated team. They are at the ready to take care of customers at any time of any day. They are very dedicated and focused on doing a good job for the customers. Customer service is key. Our core leadership team has been with us pretty much since the beginning. Some of our first hires are still with us."
What have you learned over the last 5 years?
"We have learned how to take care of any type of situation for any type of customer. We know the ins and outs of working with the insurance industry and working in a way that satisfies their requirements and their needs. We know how to partner with our insurance clients to take care of our customers."
"Working with insurance with claims like this can be intimidating for customers. We take that all out of the mix because we know what to do and how to do it. Partnering with agents and adjusters to take care of customers is a big part of what we do. It's not just the production of the work."
Looking back 5 years, what stands out most?
"By year three, we were within the top 100 SERVPRO franchises in the nation. We are designated as a Large Loss Response Team, so we handle jobs in the area that are large loss. We take on things of any size, so there really is no job too big."
"What also stands out is building a great team; lots of memories of jobs well done. We've been through a lot together as a team in terms of taking care of customers. We’ve had lots of jobs, lots of stories. The growth for our business in terms of vehicles, equipment and people has increased our capacity and know how. We have a lot of experience now. This positions us better to be able to take care of any type of customer in any type of situation or circumstance. We are ready for whatever comes."
We just want to say thank you to all of the customers and agents we have had the chance to serve and work with over the last five years. We are so glad we get to be a part of this great community and that we get to serve it every day.
SERVPRO First Responder Bowl 2018 at Cotton Bowl Stadium
Tune into the SERVPRO First Responder Bowl on December 26 at 12:30 p.m. CT (1:30 p.m. ET) televised on ESPN.
In a joint effort to honor the service and sacrifice of America’s First Responders, the annual college football bowl game played at Cotton Bowl Stadium in Dallas, Texas has been renamed the SERVPRO First Responder Bowl. Kickoff for the newly christened SERVPRO First Responder Bowl is set for December 26 at 12:30 p.m. CT (1:30 p.m. ET) and will be televised by ESPN. The agreement between ESPN Events and SERVPRO was brokered by Denver-based Impression Sports & Entertainment.
"We are truly grateful for all first responders’ sacrifice and service,” said Brant Ringler, Executive Director of the SERVPRO First Responder Bowl. “It is a tremendous privilege to honor these brave men and women who protect our communities 24/7/365. As this game continues to grow, so do our ties with first responders. Additionally, having a sponsor like SERVPRO who works along-side and supports these community heroes reinforces our goals of recognizing our first responders.”
"We are proud to present the SERVPRO First Responder Bowl dedicated to honoring some of the hardest working men and women in our country" said Sue Steen, CEO of SERVPRO Industries, Inc. "We recognize the dedication and selfless acts of our First Responders and are honored to help highlight and celebrate the commitment of these everyday heroes."
The 2018 SERVPRO First Responder Bowl is the ninth edition of the bowl game, formerly known as the Heart of Dallas Bowl, and part of the 89-year history of games being played at Cotton Bowl Stadium on the grounds of Dallas’ Fair Park, which features 227 acres of museums, attractions, history, art and performances located in the heart of the ninth largest city in the United States.
First responders to be honored include police officers, firefighters, EMS workers, correctional officers, search and rescue, dispatchers, security guards, federal agents, border patrol agents and military personnel who have specialized training and are the first to arrive and provide assistance at the scene of an emergency.
“This is an exciting change, and we are humbled by the fact that an actual bowl game has been named exclusively for the first responders of this country,” Dallas Fire-Rescue Fire Chief David Coatney said.
“We are truly honored to have a bowl game here in Dallas named after the hard working men and women serving and protecting communities across this country. It always feels great to be recognized, and I know our officers and firefighters are touched by this overwhelming show of support,” said Dallas Police Chief U. Renee Hall.
The SERVPRO First Responder Bowl tickets started selling in September. Tickets for First Responders will continue to be underwritten by our corporate sponsors. Anyone wanting more information on the bowl game can visit www.firstresponderbowl.com.

Hoarding Cleanup Services
Hoarding jobs are often sensitive situations, and SERVPRO of South Everett is here to help make it “Like it never even happened.”
According to The Mayo Clinic, “Hoarding disorder is a persistent difficulty discarding or parting with possessions because of a perceived need to save them. A person with hoarding disorder experiences distress at the thought of getting rid of the items. Excessive accumulation of items, regardless of actual value, occurs.” Many people with hoarding disorder do not find their habits to be a problem.
Hoarded items are often things others would throw away or look at as junk or garbage such as old newspapers, junk mail or packaging. Hoarding can lead to homes filled with extreme clutter to full capacity from years of accumulation, making living conditions unsanitary and crowded. Bugs, fleas, rats and other vermin may be present, at which point an exterminator would need to be called. At times, hoarding may spread to outside the home as well, to storage facilities, or even the garage or yard.
SERVPRO of South Everett encounters hoarding situations several different ways. We may be called for a fire or water loss and find the hoarding situation when we arrive on-site. We will communicate with the insurance company regarding the customer's contents coverage, and after approval, contents can be packed out and possibly cleaned, dried, and stored in our temporary storage in our warehouse so work on the fire or water loss can begin.
Another way SERVPRO of South Everett encounters hoarding jobs is through calls from landlords, case workers, real estate agents, or family members, often after the death of a loved one. In these situations, the crew will see if they should look for any items of importance while they clean the job. Sometimes, family members will come and try to help the hoarder sort through their contents as well.
Each case is very different, and hoarding jobs are often sensitive situations, but SERVPRO of South Everett is here to help make it “Like it never even happened.” If you encounter a hoarding situation at one of your properties, or with your insureds, call us today at 425-367-4484.
